Antique Burl Bowl
Total Item Description: This is a very nice example of a hand wrought “Burl Bowl.” Native Americans usually crafted these by, first locating a suitable piece of burl, building a fire within it, and then hand scraping the interior into the shape of a bowl. I have no real way of knowing if this is truly a Native American Burl Bowl. Some Early Americans also crafted these bowls by hand. I am certain of these facts: The original owner purchased the bowl from a high end Jackson Square Antiques dealer. It has been dated to the late 1700′s early 1800″s by a local auctioneer. It has a beautiful and warm patina. It comes from the living estate sale of a prominent San Francisco Resident.
